The Electronic Connector Book

This practical book gives you a hands-on understanding of connectors, terminals, device sockets, adapters, and terminal blocks used in electronic assemblies and electrical installations. It familiarizes you with the available connection solutions and guides you through selecting the optimal one for your application. It steps you through the process of identifying a given interconnect. It classifies and describes each interconnect class, from a pin to a large industrial connector. It describes proper connector use and steers you away from common mistakes. This hands-on resource covers dozens of applications, with over 1200 figures and 220 tables. It is written for the repair person, the designer, the project manager, the technician, the purchasing agent, and the electronic enthusiast. The Identiconn interactive online utility to select and identify connectors complements this book.Content overview:Terminology, classification, historyCharacterization: functionality, termination, mount, mating, characteristics, specificationsIdentification and selection by application and requirementsA comprehensive description of each class of components:Test interconnects: probes, alligator clips, grabber clips, IC clipsTerminals:wire-, board-, and panel-mount; magnet wire; foilWire splices: insulation displacement, crimp, solder, poke-in, level, twist-onWiring interconnects: mechanical connectors, ground lugs, neutral blocks, Terminal Junction SystemsJunction and barrier blocks: junction studs and blocks; panel-mount and PCB-mount barrier blocksTerminal blocks: panel-mount, feedthrough, PCB, 2-piece pluggable, DIN railBoard-in interconnects: wire-mount, cable-mount, PCB-mountDevice sockets: battery and fuse clips and holders, IC sockets, PC card sockets, card edge, FFC/FPCCompression interconnects: pogo, spring leaf, test fixture probes, SKEDD, Zebra, EMI shieldingShroudless strips: PCB headers, plugs, stackers, jumpersRectangular connectors: wire-to-wire, wire-to-board, board-to-board, drawer, bump, RAST, automotiveSingle-circuit connectors: quick-connect, banana, RC bullet, solar unipole, Camlock, immersionConcentric connectors: phone, coaxial barrel power, phonoCoax connectors: interior, microwave, N, BNC, F, TNC, telecom, high-voltage, twinax, triaxCircular connectors: XLR, DIN, MIL, IEC, slim, automotive, e-bike, LED lightingExterior signal connectors: D-shell, Modular, Data I/O, VideoExterior power connectors: AC power, appliance couplers, EV
